Program Benefits

The AB212 Program invites you to participate in a PLC with other site supervisors and directors to:

  • Develop a stronger framework of administration and supervision, leadership, and professionalism in early childhood programs in Contra Costa County;
  • Build a network of colleagues across the county for supports and resources that strengthen your professional competencies;
  • Provide opportunities to complete professional development that supports QRIS and ongoing professional growth for supervisors and directors of early childhood programs; and
  • Benefit from financial incentives that support your professional development goals.

Program Goals

The goal of the AB212 Program Professional Learning Community (PLC) Project is to support and empower teams of early care and education professionals to identify and engage in professional development with a team spirit and commitment to program goals that ultimately improve children’s learning outcomes.

The program strives to foster:

  • PEER-LEARNING – through the creation of small peer learning groups or discussion groups
  • COMMUNICATION – to identify areas of staff expertise and areas for staff growth
  • MUTUAL COOPERATION – to promote sharing of professional knowledge, to utilize knowledge gained from professional development opportunities, to influence practice in the classroom and to support team-based approaches to program improvement
  • PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT – in areas that have been identified by the staff team at the site based on available data collected through formative assessment tools
  • PERSONAL GROWTH AND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT FOR STAFF – to support the retention of a stable and skilled workforce

Eligible Participants

Contra Costa County child development programs that provide services to children who receive state subsidized child care services may apply. Contra Costa County early childhood professionals that provide services to children who receive state subsidized child care services may apply.

Eligible participants will commit to participate in 54 hours of professional development over the course of 9 months.

Participants who successfully complete participation requirements will be eligible to receive a stipend and additional support materials, which may include publications, paid webinars/seminars, and/or possible educational-related events.

Participation Requirements

Participants will be expected to:

  • Engage in activities defined by leadership, administration and supervision, and professionalism competencies;
  • Develop an evaluation of their participation with other professional learning community members;
  • Complete a minimum of 54 hours of professional growth determined through an individualized learning plan; and
  • Identify and complete a capstone project based on the learning gained through activities completed which will support their role as effective change agents for development of professional learning communities in their work environment. This Capstone project will help participants to:
    • Identify an area of potential improvement in their leadership role
    • Develop a plan of improvement for the identified area (based on the S.M.A.R.T. Goals framework) which includes a realistic timeline for successful attainment of skills
    • Write a statement paper of reflections
    • Participate in a creative process to conceptualize their learning through a story-telling project

Participants in the Site Supervisor and Director PLC will be required to attend and to complete:

  • Three-hour Kick-off Seminar about PLC principles and expectations for participation in the AB212 PLC Program
  • Face-to-face gatherings with other PLC members to discuss PLC concepts, professional growth, and individualized plan for completion of PLC activities
  • Professional Growth Modules; these may include self-paced, webinars, workshops, seminars to be approved in advance. (not counting the Capstone Development Session)
  • Capstone Development Session*
  • Site Visits to other programs and with other PLC members (To be determined by AB212 staff)
  • Celebration of PLC Framework
  • Assignments related to professional growth, which includes persona doll project, capstone project development by participant, and a summative reflection paper of their learnings during their participation in the PLC

January Professional Growth Module: Capstone Development Session
February Meet with other PLC members to discuss PLC concepts, ongoing professional growth, and progress on Capstone project
March Professional Growth Module: related to Capstone Project
April Meet with other PLC members to discuss PLC concepts, completion of professional growth, and Capstone project
May Professional Growth Module: related to completion of activities
June Completing your Capstone
