Addresses the emotional impact of loss and trauma on young children. In addition to concrete information to increasing the physical safety of children in family childcare, the workshop explores the provider’s role in helping children cope with stressful events, such as divorce, separation, and changing caregivers. Topics include: behavioral indicators of trauma; strategies to help children cope with loss; prevention of injuries.

Preschool suspension and expulsion are civil rights matters which early childhood programs must confront with developmentally, culturally, linguistically appropriate strategies. The root cause of suspension and expulsion of boys of color is well documented. At this training we will explore the link between traditional educational systems and the preschool to prison pipeline. We will discuss how evidence based strategies used in educational and therapeutic settings can support optimal developmental outcomes for boys. Discussion led by Shawn Bryant.
