Self-assess and explore risk perception through the lens of individual differences and global perspectives; Consider research based benefits of risk in the development of physical, cognitive, and social skills; Learn how to support children as they take appropriate physical risks in every day play and planned learning experiences; Learn strategies to encourage children as they initiate and participate in cognitive risk-taking behaviors; Be able to provide children with guidance in their social risk-taking behaviors that are developmentally and temperamental appropriate.

This workshop is for parents and child care providers of young children ready to learn to use the toilet. Through “TEAM WORK”, everyone will gain knowledge of the process of toilet learning and be ready for a positive and successful time of gently guiding their little ones into the AGE OF UNDERPANTS.

We will address the preparation process and the signs to look for in children that show readiness, the steps of preparation, and the process for successful toilet learning.

Some of the areas that will be covered are:

  • Teamwork – necessary ingredients for effectiveness
  • Nutrition and how it effects the body’s elimination system
  • The child’s knowledge of the purpose of the toilet
  • Necessary child self-help skills that show readiness
  • Keeping positive attitudes and using positive language with children
  • Toilet learning policies for the child care setting- a provider/parent contract for success

ASQ: SE-2 is a set of questionnaires that screen behavior and social-emotional development in young children. There are 9 questionnaires for different ages used to screen children from 1 month to 6 years old. ASQ-SE:2 can identify your child’s social-emotional strengths and areas in which your child may need support.

At this introductory training, participants will:

  • Become familiar with how to use the ASQ-SE2, including how to administer, score, interpret and make referral decisions based on the results
  • Learn to effectively communicate with parents about screening and support parents to complete the ASQ-SE2
  • Learn how to effectively conduct follow-up and resource connection utilizing the Help Me Grow system

PARTICIPANTS MUST HAVE ALREADY COMPLETED ASQ-3 TRAINING

Participants will learn what challenging behavior is and how children use it to communicate. Participants will be able to describe the meaning behind a child’s behavior and will walk away with key strategies to support children in preventing challenging behavior and to promote their social and emotional skills.
